Headline: The Ride of Silence Continues in Kansas City
Kansas City, MO - On May 15, 2013, at 7:00 p.m., the Ride of Silence (now in its tenth year internationally) will begin in North America and continue to roll across the globe. Cyclists will take to the roads in a slow, silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to ride on public streets and roads, the motoring public often isn't aware of these rights, and is sometimes unaware of the cyclists themselves. The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph and remain silent during the ride. The Ride, which is held during National Bike Month, aims to let motorists, police, and city officials know that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways.

The Kansas City Metro Bicycle Club (KCMBC) is organizing this 7th annual Kansas City ride. Over 42 bicyclists have been killed in the Kansas City area. The Kansas City ride will honor those and other bicyclists.
Riders will consist of members of local bicycling clubs and organized weekly rides as well as other cyclists and non-cyclists. Approximately 50 cyclists are expected to participate in the six-mile ride. The KCMBC Race Team will lead the ride from Brookside through the Country Club Plaza to Westport. The return trip back to Brookside will follow the reverse route.

Location: W 62nd St and Brookside Blvd, Kansas City, MO (start and finish)
Meet Time: 6:45 p.m. for brief ceremony
Ride Time 7:00 p.m. to about 8:00 p.m.
Participants of all abilities are invited to join the procession. The ride will not exceed 10 mph. The names of those who lost their lives while riding their bicycles will be read during a brief ceremony followed by ride protocol and safety instructions. The ride will start at 7:00 p.m., the same local start time around the world. The ride will return to Brookside around 8:00 p.m.
